BBC Northern Ireland News & Current Affairs has an unrivalled reputation for first-class sports output, and this is an exciting and rare opportunity to join our sports team.

We are looking for a Journalist (Sport) to be based in Londonderry. This is a fixed term contract for 12 months, flexicon for 3 days per week.

Role Responsibility

As a Journalist, you will originate and develop ideas for output and to help in planning material for future programmes as well as carry out research across the whole range of news and current affairs output. You will be expected to write scripts for TV, radio and online and prepare and present TV and Radio sport bulletins as well as prepare stories on news online. You will interview and report under direction, in both recorded and live situations, in studio or on location, for Radio, Television and News Online and produce live and pre-recorded radio news and current affairs output as well as prepare and edit radio and TV packages.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have a background in sports broadcast journalism, with the drive and instinct for intelligent, lively and creative journalism. You will need strong writing skills and a well-developed knowledge of sport in Northern Ireland. Experience of using key social media platforms is important and youll need a good broadcasting voice and excellent on-air skills. The ability to create interesting and original material is essential and you will have the ability to exercise sound editorial judgement at all times.
